DMH's Stellar Business Sense

If anyone has been listening to the radio or reading the DMH Herald & Review lately, they've seen or heard ads for "two new doctors coming to St. Mary's."

What the ad doesn't mention is that the fact that Dr. Robert M. Smith and Dr. David Gregory WERE RENTING FROM DMH BEFORE THEY MOVED TO ST. MARY'S!!!!

Their old office was out by the Holiday Inn, and had been there for at least 14 or 15 years. A friend told me that DMH raised their rent by over 50% and DMH blamed it on the FBI investigation! The doctors and staff moved to their new location next to St. Mary's the last week of July.

These family docs must see a lot of patients, and with St. Mary's conveniently next door, A LOT OF MONEY WILL NOW GO IN TO ST. MARY'S COFFERS RATHER THAN DMH! How many other docs who rent from DMH will also be forced to move once their contracts ARE up and their rent is raised?

The one thing I want to know is, HOW IN THE WORLD CAN ANY OF THE OTHER FAMILY DOCTORS WORKING FOR DMH AFFORD TO PAY THIS HIGH RENT? THEY DON'T SEE THEIR PATIENTS IN THE HOSPITAL, SO HOW COULD THEY GENERATE EXTRA INCOME TO COVER THAT DEFICIT AND THEIR ADDITIONAL HIGH RENT? WHAT ARE THEY GETTING PAID?

Then again, when has DMH administration ever made sense?

I heard it was a 70% increase in rent initially, and that DMH's best offer after that was a 40% increase in base rent. Many patients their were not happy with what DMH had done to their doctors.

How many other doctors rent from DMH? Is there a way to find this out?

70% was the figure I heard, and the reason for it was that Smith and Gregory refused to refer exclusively to DMH. So it's still going on...right in the midst of a federal investigation!

I am a former patient of Dr Gregory. He refused to see me twice when I came in to his office and had his nurse call an ambulance to take me to DMH even though I requested St Mary's, so I have a hard time beleiving that they weren't being exclusive to DMH.

I saw Dr. Gregory out at the Decatur Celebration.

He was wearing a St. Mary's hat.

I don't think you're right about him.

The way the salaries of DMH hired docs can be justified not just by the number of patients they see but also the number of test(blood test, x-rays, MRI's, CAT scans, etc.) that goes to DMH. Also, the number of patients that obviously has to see DMH hired or DMH highly affiliated specialist. Really the big money maker is not the office visit but all those ancillary procedures.

I recently changed from a DMH employed doctor.
I had obvious symptoms of pneumonia for 3 months, but did not receive proper treatment.

I'm thinking it was because this MD's salary/bonus depended upon how many people he kept out of the hospital. He probably got more for ordering outpatient lab tests, etc., and not admitting me to the hospital for IV antibiotics. Hospital care would have cost more, cutting into DMH's bottom line.

After switching doctor's I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days, received IV antibiotics (which should have been my former doctor's approach) and have felt well ever since.

DMH and it's doctors - forget about it if you value your health.

Never again for me. Dmh and its captive doctors cared more about the bottom line and their bonuses than my health.
